Avert the issues in a gas boiler problem
Summer time does not cause one to worry much about heating, but as long as you are used to your hot showers with no other alternatives, you might be in for some trouble if your heating boiler malfunctions when winter arrives. Boilers are one of those things in life that we rarely think think of, until they stop working that is. Its vital role in providing warmth and hot water becomes sorely missed; and fears arise of the costly repair bills to come.
Most of the repairs of your rented home are covered by your landlord including your boiler repairs so you could be lucky. But if you’re a homeowner, you may want to think about putting a little aside to cover the costs should anything go wrong.
If your central heating boiler is over ten years old, it might be worth investing in a new model; this can cut your fuel costs down considerably, especially if you get a high-efficiency model. The type of boiler that you should buy depends on your family size and the available space at your home, the existing boiler also affects your choice. A combi heating boiler is the most widely known, and is good for small homes with few people, or people who don’t want to wait for their hot water. Unlike a storage central heating boiler, a combi boiler warms the water directly at the mains, thus eliminating the tank section. Hot water will be available instantaneously on demand, but if a hot tap is opened by someone else while you are enjoying your shower, you better jump out fast unless you like cold showers!.
The other option is to have a sealed system gas boiler which uses a storage tank, which allows bigger families to use different water outlets at the same time without affecting the water pressure or temperature. The system central heating boiler needs not much space and it is quick and easy to install. The main disadvantage, however is that you will have to wait for the water in the tank to heat up.
Many older houses have an open vent central heating boiler installed, and it is the bulkiest of all; two tanks in the attic and a storage cylinder in the ventilated closet. Like the sealed system, this type of gas boiler can allow multiple outlets to draw hot water a the same time, but can also take a while to heat and doesn’t give the best water pressure.
Lastly, what’s known as a back heating boiler gives simultaneous access to hot water from several outlets with sustained pressure; but it may need a large area for installation. Traditionally back boilers are stored in a chimney breast, but unless you already have one, it’s probably not worth switching to one. However repairing an existing back gas boiler or replacing it with a new back gas boiler can result in better efficiency and reduced long term costs.
It is costly to get the any of these types of central heating system repaired. That is why it is important to get heating insurance so you can be confident that any costs will be taken care of if something breaks down, costs which cover labour and spare parts for your heating boiler. A boiler insurance policy including coverage for yearly boiler inspections and emergency servicing for repairs will go a long way in reducing your annual central heating boiler maintenance expenses.
