Icy winds of winter curl through the trees and you huddle at your window, thinking of heating for your home – this season perhaps you should get yourself gas central heating. And for keeping your home cosy and warm, you need a good, safe and reliable central heating system, not one that breaks down when the first ice appears.
The typical gas central heating system has copper pipework, central heating radiators and a gas gas boiler and it is basically of two types, vented or a pumped system.
Pumped systems are probably the more common ones and their main part is a feed expansion tank which acts as the centre core by heating up itself first to subsequently warm up the heaters via the pipes. Due to heat, the water in the tank expands and fills it up.
The vented central heating system, on the other hand, is a sealed system, and it doesn’t have the centre section. No water tanks are needed because the system is closed. Chief advantages of vented systems are: there is no risk of leaking water tank; major problems like air locks are also not associated with such systems; furthermore, they are specifically useful in cold countries because there is no risk of freezing pipes.
You may ask why you need central heating and what are its rewards?.
One of the greatest advantages of gas central heating is its capability to increase the temperature inside a home or office very quickly without creating any noticeable effects in the air immediately surrounding you. Electric fires, gas and storage heaters were the types used in the old days. However, these were not ideal as they emitted an odour and affected the condition of the air, drying it out.
The gas central heating systems are free from all these drawbacks but they need regular maintenance to keep them functioning reliably. Spring and summertime often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly turned on when a chilly wind blows in. Try to switch on your heating system during autumn so that if there is any defect, it can be fixed well before wintertimes approach and fixed at a time when the heating engineers are less busy.
It should also be noted that some gas central heating systems allow air or dirt into them, so yearly draining is required. The easiest way to do this is to gently open the valve and allow any water to fall into a bucket placed underneath.
