The benefits and drawbacks of the variant central heating gas boiler variants

Central Heating systems come in various configurations. These systems for the most part are made up of a number of heating radiators, pipework and of course a gas boiler.

Across the majority of Northern Europe the climate is not warm enough to warrant air conditioning. In fact, a decent heating system is a necessity in these regions, and due to this, a majority of new houses have a Gas Central Heating system.

A reliable Gas Central Heating system is important to keep your house warm especially during winter months. While blizzards rage on outside, you can be safe and warm on the inside. Your Central Heating System must be fault free as much as possible and efficient to cut bills. You Gas Central Heating System must give you the feeling of assurance that it is safe, simple to use with a long life.

Pumped/vented and sealed are the two main types of Gas Central Heating Systems on the market.

You will find pumped/vented systems in most homes at the moment. A pumped/vented Central Heating System includes components known as a feed and expansion tank to allow for the expansion of water as it is heated in the radiators. The tank supplies your house with hot water and provides the radiators with heat. The expansion tank has adequate space to accommodate any water expansion that occurs due to heat. The tank is positioned at the point of maximum height, usually in the attic area to create water pressure. The hot water tank has two main functions; to heat the house and and provide hot water for washing.

A pumped/vented Central Heating System is what most homes probably have, especially those built many years earlier.

The sealed Central Heating system is one that more and more people are opting for these days. As the name indicates, a sealed system is a an enclosed system therefore no expansion water tanks are needed. There are no pipework or tanks also in the attic, the system is sealed in the true sense and it has its own advantages.

- Frozen attic pipes are no longer a problem.

- attic space is freed up and pipe maintenance is reduced.

- This decreases the chances of a possible leakage.

- As there are no open vents, air cannot enter into the system and so the risk of corrosion, airlocks and sludge is drastically reduced.

- Can be flushed out under pressure if needed by the mains water supply.

A sealed Gas Central Heating System is a packaged unit with all the necessary controls and safety devices. The mains water supplies the water required for the sealed Central Heating system. The pressure of the main water supply benefits the hot water outlets and gives a healthy shower.

The system also has a pressure vessel which contains compressed gas, it controls the variations in pressure and a diaphragm is used to separate it from the sealed system. The pressure in a sealed Central Heating System is controlled by a valve that lets water out if the pressure becomes too high and opens to refill the system with water if the pressure gets too low.

Central Heating Systems are a worthwhile investment as they have the lowest cost of operation when compared with other types of heating. They also offer you all round control which is more than most heating systems do.
